The Consultative Lesson

I believe that everyone can learn to play piano well with practice and proper instruction, and that is my aim - for all my students to become the best pianists they can be.

Beyond proper technique, sight reading, and musicality, however, I believe that music should always be enjoyable. Be it fun, relaxing, therapeutic, or expressive, music ought to inspire any positive emotion that encourages the student to continue learning.

With this in mind, all of my lessons utilize a consultative approach. Each lesson is uniquely designed around the needs, goals, and learning style of each student, for maximum effectiveness. Also, good communication between the teacher and the student will expedite the learning process.

For these reasons, I require a complimentary (30 minute) consultation/introductory piano lesson to learn more about the student, and to ensure a good student-teacher fit.

Studio Objectives

To provide my students with a balanced music education through the study of theory, technic, note reading, and musicality.

To help my students develop poise, confidence, self-esteem and discipline through the study and performance of piano.

To inspire a love and understanding for all kinds of music.

Why Private Lessons?

Method

Although my teaching method varies with the level, age, learning style, and goals of the student, ALL of my piano lessons combine musical topics in a cheerful, effective manner. Beginning students learn the basics of piano playing by studying a series of lesson, technique, and theory books, while intermediate students progress by studying true classical pieces that are specially picked for the student. My goal is to help all my students learn the proper fundamentals of piano playing along with good practicing habits so that, if they wish to do so, they are exceptionally prepared for the advanced study of piano.

With that said, I am open to students learning pieces for their own entertainment (as long as they continue progressing!) and will never pressure students to perform past the point of fun.

Music is an expression, and I always want that expression to remain positive!
